September
Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
Cancer Kids for Christ wishes to join the many children, parents, organizations and professionals by recognizing September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
For most parents, September marks the beginning of a new journey for their children in the area of education. Therefore it is only fitting for September to be set aside for educating parents and the community that Childhood Cancer is the number one disease killer of children. In fact it is the number two child killer behind accidents.
Additional facts include:
- Approximately 12,400 are diagnosed with cancer each year.
- In 1998, about 2500 died of cancer. Currently the number is as high as 4,000 children each year die.
- About one in 300 boys and one in 333 girls will develop cancer before the age of 20.
